In the ancient Vedic texts, it describes Cheppu being created out of a blaze of Shivas third eye. A demon named Rahu was trying to have an insidious relationship with Shivas wife Pavarti, he was understandably outraged. Cheppu made a beeline to devour the demon. Rahu knew that he would be eaten so he begged Shiva for mercy. Shiva offered him forgiveness, but since Cheppu was deprived of his pray, he turned on himself and devoured his own body. Cheppu reminders us not to be controlled by the negative emotions of our mind or outside forces.
